SALS' Sunday School continues to ebb, as there were only 6 kids attending at the close of classes for the summer in May. Just another area where the parents need to kick in and get their kids a Christian education. Yes, there are events and circumstances that may limit attendance sometimes, but this is all-out abandonment!! Action of some sort needs to be taken before Sunday School disappears entirely.

As one of the families who have stopped attending Sunday School, we would like to offer a few suggestions.
The problem that the Gardner children have with St. Andrew's is the teaching of New Testament ONLY! TO develop an appreciation of Lutheranism, we NEED to learn about where our traditions came from. Learning the same NT stories is comparable to reading a young child the same bedtime story everynight. Even if the story is a good, true, and classic story, the child will get bored.
We need new stimulation to keep our interest, proven by the fact that it is a weekly struggle to make Jared and Emma attend St. Andrews every week. At this point, they are recieving a more involved education at home and from attending other churches Sunday Schools.
I suggest for the Adult Sunday School that we explore once a month a new religion or branch of Christianity that the class can compare to Lutheranism.
I.e. What is the difference between the Buddha and Jesus?
Trust me, we COULD deal with it.
Change isn't optional for Sunday School anymore.
If you want the church to survive, we NEED change.
For my family and myself, we can seek a Lutheran education elsewhere if St. Andrews is too attached to tradition to change.
We seem to be losing what made us Lutheran in the first place, a need for change and people willing to fight for it.
