Loverly Weather!
What's with the weather this year? February's crippling snowstorm and all the fun associated with that; near-90 degree days in April; and the fierce wind/rain storms of May and early June...WOW! How many tornado watches/warnings have we been under? What's causing it? Could it be global warming? Political bickering? The sun dying out? Aliens? Yer Buccos? Whaddya think? |
A Warm Welcome To All!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all who have ventured here to check out this site. I think it is important for folks to have a place to talk about church-related issues, to share ideas and opinions, and to participate in the process and progress of PLUM. PLUM is 6 congregations strong now and the initial goals of this ministry are slowly being realized. There is room for growth and your help and prayers are needed. Please feel free to share your thoughts and make use of this opp ...
98 YEARS YOUNG!!
On October 19th SAL will be celebrating our 98th Anniversary! Not bad longevity-wise for a church as small as ours. We are already making plans for the big 100th. Happy Birthday to SAL! |
Genni Recovers!
Genni Long, our organist/choir director, recently had carpal tunnel surgery. As a result, the choir has been put on hiatus for a few weeks. Thanks to Jim Kramer for filling in! Get well soon, Gen! |
Sunday School?
SALS' Sunday School continues to ebb, as there were only 6 kids attending at the close of classes for the summer in May. Just another area where the parents need to kick in and get their kids a Christian education. Yes, there are events and circumstances that may limit attendance sometimes, but this is all-out abandonment!! Action of some sort needs to be taken before Sunday School disappears entirely.
Changes in the Church
Many of the denominations are taking a close look at how their churches are functioning, to see if they are in tune with the issues of the day, the relevance of the message, the appeal of church life and activity, especially as regards the young people, and the continued existence of fragmented, struggling congregations. Are there changes that are needed in the Lutheran discipline? In the local church? This is a topic of hot debate in many circles; need to hear from you.
Church/PLUM websites
Since it's been a year since I posted the topic, I figure I'd at least answer it, in a way. WHERE ARE YOU PEOPLE??...I'M HOPING THAT SOMEONE ELSE WILL COME ON HERE AND START VOICING AN OPINION!! Please take some time to read this stuff and comment on it! Thanks.
How Do We Get People To Come To Church??
It seems to be a tussle to get folks to come to church. Today's world has taken most of the religious relevance out of Sunday, instead making it a good day to schedule soccer camps, picnics, all kinds of sports stuff, and the day to recover from "Saturday Night" festivities and to get ready for Monday. Going to church has taken a back seat, and religion pales in significance to the pre-game show. We need to reaffirm Gods' place in the world and our lives, and soon!! I think it starts b ...
SALC Website
We need to spread the word of the terrific work Steve Mc. has done with our congregation's website. During church service at the "Announcement" portion of the service would be an appropriate time to announce/remind and encourage members to log on.
Silence during communion
Well, the communion music is back (3/1/2008), but check out the noise at the beginning of service! We need to reflect QUIETLY on what we are there for...greeting our fellow parishioners can be done after the service! |
